Up for some in-car entertainment on the cheap? This Sony device could be the answer. It looks like a standard portable DVD player, but it comes with a car mounting kit and a power lead for connecting to a car's cigarette lighter. An external battery pack is available for £60, though.

Image quality on the seven-inch screen is good and the sound is solid through headphones, although less impressive through the small built-in speakers. Still, if you're faced with a long, hot journey this summer, the MV-700HR represents a good cheap fix for keeping the kids amused, especially if you've dumped all of their favourite TV shows onto a DivX-encoded disc.
