Panasonic pimps full HD LCD

A strapping 37-incher with more pixels than we've had hot dinners.

Panasonic has just launched its largest, highest specced LCD telly yet: a 37-inch belter with a full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Yep, the TX-37LZD70, as it's known to its friends, is able to accept and display a 1080p picture without any downscaling or cropping, so you get every pixel from the source - Blu-ray, HD DVD, video game, whatever - up there on your screen.

The model is something of a departure from the norm for the big P - in the past, they've stopped at 32 inches with their LCDs, instead using plasma tech on the bigger screens.

The TV comes with a boatload of picture features, including an ultra-wide 178 degree viewing angle, meaning you can plonk yourself way off to the side of the screen and still see a crisp, high contrast image, with none of the fading that can happen on lesser LCDs. Another LCD weakness, black levels, is addressed by the Intelligent Scene Controller, which automatically tweaks the telly's backlight during dark scenes to, well, make them look darker.

The TV is on sale right now, with a price tag of about £950.
