T-Mobile to partner Apple iPhone?

Mobile phone carrier T-Mobile has started the iPhone rumour mill churning again after it made cooing noises over Apple's use of 3G.

T-Mobile's US business was talking up the billions of dollars it plans to spend to expand its 3G network, when it made the overtures.

Chief executive Robert Dotson said Apple's desktop machines were a "great precursor" of where he thinks the 3G market is going.

Previous rumours had suggested that the Apple-iPhone would debut next year on the Cingular network, but it's possible T-Mobile could steal the gig.

T-Mobile's wireless spectrum would allow phones to switch between cellular calls and Wi-Fi connections, using Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) technology.

Keen industry watchers have also noted an Apple job advert that could be for the position of marketing manager for the iPhone.

The job is officially titled as iTunes Mobile Marketing Manager, with a role to build a mobile marketing strategy and requiring strong knowledge of the industry.

It has also been revealed that Apple has held the domain name iphone.org since 1999, which it snapped up before the first iPod even came to market.

The site currently redirects web surfers to Apple's homepage.

Last week, sources uncovered the possibility that the iPhone could use GPS technology in conjunction with Google maps and to tag photos taken with a camera phone.

Those revelations came after a message about syncing iPhoto software with a mobile phone was found in the latest code for Apple's iTunes.
