LG breaks into Blu movies

We've seen the first fruits of LG's Blu-Ray labour. It's swish. It's swanky. And it'll play almost anything you chuck its way.

LG's shown off its first Blu-Ray player, the BD100, offering up full 1080p pictures and a staggering list of supported file formats.

The slick player makes mincemeat of almost any video file you can throw at it, from DivX discs to Windows Media files. It'll play standard DVDs and MP3s too.

The player also supports Java content using the BD-J standard, so discs with advanced interactive features will play like a dream.

LG's hazy on the player's pricing, and isn't too sure of a release date either. All they could tell us is that it'll be "competitively priced."

Judging by similar offerings from Samsung, we'd expect the BD100 to come in below the £1,000 mark, although Blu-Ray players are inherently more expensive than their HD-DVD counterparts, so don't be too surprised if it's still a little on the pricey side.
