Satnav gets smarter

Hate jam? Check out Evesham's new live traffic alert totin' satnav.

Evesham is known for its PCs, but the company is dipping its toe into the world of satnav with the Bluemedia BM6300-TMC, a device that adds some live traffic alert icing to the normal GPS navigation cake.

Called TMC (which stands for Traffic Message Channel), this function hands you the latest details of bad weather, roadworks, accidents and congestion on your route. If you're approaching a troublespot, it can automatically assign you a new route around it.

Traffic alerts aren't exactly new, but they generally require you to keep dipping into your wallet if you want to use them. Not so with the BM6300 - it keeps supplying them as long as you use the unit.

Other features include a 3.5-inch LCD screen, maps for the UK and Ireland and six months of free speed camera alerts. And it all retails for £400. Head over to www.bluemediagps.com for more info.
